Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BeamIt.live file transfers
How does BeamIt.live work?
BeamIt.live uses peer-to-peer WebRTC technology when possible for direct device-to-device transfers. If WebRTC isn't available due to network restrictions, it automatically falls back to a secure server relay. Simply select your files, generate an 8-digit code, and share it with the recipient.
Is my data secure and private?
Yes. Files are encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS encryption. When using WebRTC, files transfer directly between devices without touching our servers. When using server relay, files are never stored permanently - they're only temporarily relayed and immediately deleted after transfer completion.
What's the maximum file size and what file types are supported?
Maximum file size is 10GB per file. All file types are supported - documents, images, videos, archives, software, and any other file format. You can transfer multiple files in a single session.
How long do transfer codes last?
Transfer codes expire after 10 minutes for security purposes. If your code expires, simply generate a new one. Once a transfer is accepted, you'll have 30 minutes to complete the file transfer.
What devices and browsers are supported?
BeamIt.live works on all modern devices and browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop, mobile, and tablet. It's optimized for iOS Safari and includes special handling for mobile devices to ensure reliable transfers.
Do I need to create an account or install anything?
No account creation or software installation required. BeamIt.live works entirely in your web browser. Just visit the website, select your files, and start transferring immediately.
What's the difference between WebRTC and server relay?
WebRTC creates a direct peer-to-peer connection between devices, offering faster speeds and enhanced privacy. Server relay is used when firewalls or network restrictions prevent direct connections. The app automatically chooses the best method and shows you which one is being used.
How fast are the transfers?
Transfer speed depends on your internet connection and the transfer method. WebRTC peer-to-peer transfers are typically faster, while server relay speeds depend on your upload/download bandwidth. The app shows real-time transfer progress, speed, and estimated time remaining.
Can I transfer multiple files at once?
Yes! You can select multiple files or drag and drop entire folders. All files will be transferred using the same 8-digit code, and the recipient can download them individually as they're received.
What if the transfer fails or gets interrupted?
BeamIt.live includes automatic retry mechanisms and connection recovery. If a transfer is interrupted, you can simply generate a new code and restart. The app is designed to handle network fluctuations and includes keep-alive mechanisms for large file transfers.
Is BeamIt.live optimized for mobile devices?
Yes! The interface is fully responsive and includes special optimizations for mobile browsers, especially iOS Safari. Features include touch-friendly controls, mobile-optimized code input, and enhanced connection stability for mobile networks.
How much data does BeamIt.live use?
The app itself uses minimal data. Transfer data usage equals the size of files being sent/received. When using WebRTC, data travels directly between devices. With server relay, the same amount of data passes through our servers but is never stored.
